What Are the Requirements for International Adoption? 

If this is your first experience with international adoption, it might be hard to know what to expect. You might also be unsure of the requirements to be considered an eligible adoptive parent. You must follow federal and state laws as well as the separate laws of the country from which you are adopting. 

There are things that each prospective parent has to prove to be considered eligible: 

• Be a United States Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
• Pay the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) filing fee
• Pass a fingerprinted FBI criminal background check 
• Receive suitable parent determination from USCIS
• Complete international adoption applications 

What Can You Expect from International Adoption? 

The adoption process is lengthy and can be overwhelming, especially if you’re a first-time parent. While every adoption is going to be unique, there are processes that are followed every time:
